At Forbes Care, our Support at Home Occupational Therapists help older adults live safely, independently, and confidently at home. Through comprehensive OT assessments, we recommend the most appropriate equipment and assistive technology to support mobility, daily activities, home safety, and reablement.

All recommendations are individualised, clinically justified, and aligned with Support at Home funding guidelines.

Low-Level Equipment for Daily Living & Safety

Supporting independence in everyday activities and reducing falls risk:

  • Non-slip bath and shower mats
  • Handheld shower heads
  • Raised toilet seats
  • Bed and chair aids
  • Daily living aids (jar openers, adaptive cutlery, grip aids)
  • Reachers and dressing aids
  • Personal alert and safety alarms

Medium-Level Assistive Technology & Mobility Equipment

Enhancing safety, transfers, and participation at home and in the community:

  • Mobility equipment: walking frames, walkers, transport chairs, manual wheelchairs, mobility scooters (where clinically appropriate)
  • Showering and toileting equipment: shower chairs, commodes, transfer benches, raised toilet frames
  • Seating and pressure care: pressure-relief cushions, adjustable seating supports
  • Home safety technology: fall-detection pendants,motion-activated lighting
  • Cognitive and memory aids: medication reminders, simple communication and memory devices

Higher-Level Equipment & Complex Assistive Technology

Supporting clients with increased care, mobility, or safety needs:

  • Advanced mobility solutions: powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters
  • Bedroom and transfer equipment: adjustable beds, bed hoists, mobile hoists, ceiling hoist systems
  • Home access and safety solutions: stair lifts and advanced monitoring technology

Occupational Therapy Assessments for Support at Home

Our Occupational Therapists assess:

  • Functional mobility and transfers
  • Home safety and environmental risks
  • Equipment suitability and set-up
  • Reablement goals and long-term independence

OT assessments ensure equipment is safe, appropriate, and effective, reducing the risk of injury while supporting ongoing participation in daily life.
