Ongoing OT Support: Building Skills, Confidence and Independence at Every Age

At Forbes Care, we know that progress doesn’t always happen in a straight line. That’s why our Occupational Therapy support goes beyond one-off assessments — we offer ongoing, personalised therapy that helps both adults and children build practical skills, confidence, and independence over time.

Whether it’s a child learning to manage their emotions, a young adult preparing for work, or an older adult adapting to life at home with new support needs, our therapy is always tailored to meet the individual where they’re at — and work toward what matters most.

What Is Ongoing Occupational Therapy?

Ongoing OT involves regular sessions (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly) where the therapist and client work together toward specific functional goals. These sessions may be clinic-based, home-based, school-based, or in the community — wherever the person needs support most.

We focus on skill development across everyday tasks, such as:

For children and teens:

  • Emotional regulation and sensory processing
  • Executive functioning (planning, attention, problem-solving)
  • Self-care routines (toileting, dressing, hygiene)
  • Social skills and communication
  • School readiness or participation
  • Play and leisure engagement

For adults:

  • Daily living tasks (cooking, cleaning, budgeting)
  • Community access and travel training
  • Workplace skills and capacity building
  • Fatigue and pain management
  • Cognitive strategies for memory, focus, and organisation
  • Emotional regulation and mental health support

Why Ongoing Therapy Matters

Skill-building takes time — especially when disability, sensory challenges, trauma, or mental health conditions are part of the picture. Our ongoing therapy model offers:

  • Consistency – to build trust and momentum
  • Flexibility – to adjust goals as needs evolve
  • Repetition – because practice leads to confidence
  • Collaboration – with families, support workers, educators, and other professionals

At Forbes Care, we know that small changes can lead to big shifts — and we celebrate every step forward, no matter how small.

Working Toward What Matters

Our Occupational Therapists use a strengths-based, person-centred approach to support clients with:

  • Goal setting that reflects their values and priorities
  • Step-by-step skill development
  • Practical strategies that fit their environment
  • Visual tools, routines, and coaching for carers or support teams
  • Feedback and reflection to support growth over time

We don’t just aim for progress — we aim for sustainable, meaningful participation in the things that matter most: home life, relationships, work, learning, and community engagement.
