FAQs

What is Occupational Therapy?

Down

Occupational therapy (OT) supports people of all ages to participate in the activities that matter to them. This may include physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges. Our Sunshine Coast, North Brisbane, Gympie and Moreton Bay occupational therapy services tailor sessions to each participant’s goals.

How do I know if I might benefit from occupational therapy?

Down

If you’re finding it tricky to do everyday activities or reach your goals because of physical, cognitive, developmental, or mental health challenges, OT could make a difference. Our team works across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Moreton Bay, and North Brisbane to provide personalised assessments and support plans. We’ll always focus on your strengths first, helping you build independence, participation, and a better quality of life in ways that matter to you.

What conditions can Occupational Therapy help with?

Down

OT can support people living with a wide range of conditions, including (but not limited to):

  • Neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson’s disease
  • Musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, joint replacements, or chronic pain
  • Mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Developmental conditions such as autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability
  • Age-related changes that affect safety, mobility, or independence at home and in the community

At Forbes Care, we always start with you. Our OTs take time to understand your story, your goals, and what’s most important, so together we can create meaningful improvements in your day-to-day life.

What qualifications do your OTs have?

Down

Every OT on our team has completed a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, along with supervised clinical experience and national certification. Beyond the formal training, we place strong value on ongoing learning.

Our OTs take part in regular professional development, peer learning, and specialist training in areas like paediatrics, assistive technology, home modifications, and mental health. This way, you’ll always be supported by someone who brings both expertise and a genuine passion for helping you thrive.

How do I keep track of progress in occupational therapy?

Down

Your OT will regularly check in with you, update your goals, and guide you on next steps. You (and your family, if you choose) are part of every conversation, so your therapy always reflects what’s most meaningful for you. We also connect with your wider support team, such as coordinators, other health professionals, or carers, so everyone is working together towards the same outcomes. This collaborative approach helps keep progress on track and ensures you have the right support at the right time.

What kind of support can I expect from Forbes Care?

Down

No two journeys look the same, which is why our support is flexible and shaped around your life. For some people, that might mean help with daily living tasks, therapy to build confidence, or strategies for joining in with community activities. For others, it’s about assistive technology, home modifications, or specialist interventions. Whatever your goals, we’ll walk beside you, making sure the support feels practical, encouraging, and right for you.

How can occupational therapy specialists help adults manage daily activities?

Down

How can occupational therapy specialists help adults manage daily activities?Every adult has different routines, roles, and priorities, which means support needs to be tailored to the individual. Our Occupational Therapists take the time to understand what matters most to each client and design strategies that fit their lifestyle.

This may include support with personal care, cooking and meal preparation, work tasks, community participation, or managing the home environment. By focusing on individual goals and strengths, we help adults build independence, increase confidence, and improve overall quality of life in ways that are meaningful to them.

How can participants access occupational therapy services?

Down

Participants funded through the NDIS, DVA, or HCP can access our Occupational Therapists through their approved services.

  • NDIS: You will need Occupational Therapy services included under the Capacity Building.
  • DVA: Your GP must complete and send a D904 referral form to our practice. This provides access to up to 12 fully funded OT sessions per year.
  • Home Care Packages: A referral form needs to be completed either by your case manager or by you directly if you are self-managing your package.

We work closely with you and your family to ensure your therapy plan is practical, achievable, and focused on building independence and quality of life.

To get started, simply submit the relevant referral form or contact our team to discuss your needs and book an initial assessment.

What makes Forbes Care different from other providers?

Down

At Forbes Care, we believe support is about more than ticking boxes, it’s about walking alongside you. We focus on your strengths, celebrate your wins, and shape supports around what matters most in your life. Our team is collaborative, caring, and always learning so that the services we provide keep making a meaningful difference.

How do you support families and carers too?

Down

Support often involves more than just one person, so we make sure families and carers feel included when it’s helpful. We bring both empathy and confidence to the way we work, offering warmth as well as clear, practical guidance.

Our approach is neuroaffirming, and we embrace diversity in all its forms. That means every family, including LGBTQ+ participants and carers, can feel respected, understood, and represented. Together, we create a safe and supportive space where everyone can work towards the same goals.
