Meet Michelle: An Occupational Therapist Supporting Growth Across the Sunshine Coast, Redcliffe, and Caboolture

For Michelle, becoming an Occupational Therapist was a decision guided by heart, reflection, and curiosity. After working closely with a careers counsellor and reaching out to various allied health professionals, it was the Occupational Therapists’ passion for their diverse and rewarding roles that lit a spark.

“I loved that OTs worked across so many different fields and still found their work challenging, meaningful, and even fun,” Michelle shares.

Today, Michelle brings that same enthusiasm and compassion to her role as an Occupational Therapist at Forbes Care, supporting individuals across the Sunshine Coast, Redcliffe, and Caboolture regions.

Finding Joy in the Journey

What Michelle loves most about her work is simple but powerful: making a difference in people’s lives—no matter how small the step.

“I love meeting people at all different stages of life and helping them overcome difficulties in meaningful areas. Seeing even small progress is so rewarding and makes it all worthwhile.”

Michelle’s clinical interests are rooted in working with children and young adults, helping them build independence, confidence, and life skills that set the foundation for their future.

Building Bridges Through Play

Michelle’s go-to therapy strategy is one that feels like play—but carries a deep clinical purpose. She often brings a mix of interactive games into sessions, like customised "Would You Rather" activities, drawing games, spot-the-difference challenges, and classic favourites like Uno.

“These tools aren’t just fun,” Michelle explains. “They help me gather insights about a client’s communication, visual perception, and fine motor skills in a natural and enjoyable way.”

This playful approach helps Michelle build strong, trusting relationships with clients from the very first meeting.

A Calm, Trusted Presence

Michelle’s strength lies not just in what she does, but in how she does it. Known for her calm, respectful, and client-centred approach, Michelle consistently creates a safe space for her clients and their families.

“She treated my mother like gold… the way she communicated with the elderly is amazing,” shared one grateful family member.

Her ability to build rapport—particularly with those who may be hesitant or vulnerable—sets her apart and ensures that therapy always feels supportive, empowering, and respectful.

Collaboration and Care at Forbes Care

At Forbes Care, Michelle has found a team environment that mirrors the values she brings to her work.

“It’s a very supportive environment. The admin team, management, clinical leads, and senior OTs are always available to offer guidance. You’re part of a big team with so much collective clinical experience behind you.”

Michelle’s supervisors echo the sentiment, recognising her as a thoughtful clinician who uplifts both client and carer wellbeing through her consistency, kindness, and practical skillset.

Growth Through Real-World Wins

One standout moment that captures Michelle’s impact was her recent work with a long-term client with an intellectual disability. Using a graded, creative approach, Michelle helped the client build real-world money-handling skills—starting with games and eventually moving to mock café transactions.

Her ability to adapt strategies, reflect on progress, and maintain a client-led focus led to a meaningful increase in the client's confidence and participation in daily life.

Empowering Progress, One Step at a Time

Whether she’s helping a young adult build independence, empowering an older client to maintain engagement in daily activities, or offering heartfelt support to families, Michelle brings warmth, presence, and professionalism to every session.

At Forbes Care, we’re proud to have Michelle on our team—helping individuals and families move forward, grow stronger, and achieve their goals, one meaningful step at a time.
