Keely’s journey into Occupational Therapy was shaped by experience—and encouragement.
Before becoming an OT, she worked alongside therapists in an assistive technology setting, helping people find practical solutions that improved their everyday independence. What started as support work turned into inspiration, as several OTs she collaborated with recognised something in her: empathy, practicality, and a talent for problem-solving. Their encouragement lit the path, and Keely made the leap into the profession herself.
Today, she brings that same thoughtful, hands-on approach to her work with Forbes Care, supporting clients across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie.
From Tools to Transformation
Keely has a natural affinity for assistive technology and home modifications—areas where practical solutions meet meaningful impact.
“I enjoy helping people make their homes safer and more accessible. It’s not just about the equipment; it’s about giving people back their independence and confidence,” she shares.
She’s also discovering a growing passion for ongoing therapy, working closely with clients to build routines, strategies, and skills that align with their daily goals.
Her strength lies in meeting people where they are—whether that’s with clinical knowledge, kindness, or a creative problem-solving lens.
Helping Clients Make Sense of Fatigue
One of Keely’s favourite therapeutic tools is Spoon Theory, a concept used to help clients understand energy limitations due to fatigue or chronic illness.
“Fatigue can be hard to explain and even harder to manage,” Keely says. “Spoon Theory helps clients give themselves permission to rest. It gives them language for what they’re experiencing, and tools to plan around it.”
It’s this kind of insight that turns therapy into empowerment.
A Genuine, Client-Led Approach
When it comes to building relationships with clients, Keely’s approach is refreshingly natural.
“I try to keep things relaxed. I find that if we’re having a conversation that’s friendly and open, people are more likely to share what’s really going on—and that leads to better outcomes.”
Her supervisors agree, describing Keely as approachable, grounded, and deeply invested in her clients’ wellbeing.
“Keely brings a warm and supportive energy to both her clients and the team. Her ability to build lasting therapeutic relationships is one of her biggest strengths.”
A Confident Voice for Advocacy
Recently, Keely showed her clinical leadership in action when working with a support coordinator on a complex case. Faced with multiple care options and differing perspectives, Keely held a robust discussion to advocate for her client’s needs. The result was a clearer path forward and stronger relationships with everyone involved.
Thriving at Forbes Care
For Keely, the highlight of her new-grad year has been the supportive and proactive culture at Forbes Care.
“It’s not just that our supervisors listen—it’s that they actually do something. I feel like my growth is important here,” she reflects.
With strong clinical mentorship, a collaborative team culture, and a shared belief in person-centred care, Keely is exactly where she’s meant to be—making a difference, one thoughtful session at a time.
